Have you ever tried getting you baby to sleep through the night by using the Ferber method?
Who or what is Ferber?
Richard Ferber is the director of the Center for Pediatric Sleep Disorders. It is the belief of the doctor that a “progressive” approach is required to help your child fall asleep and stay asleep.
A forward thinking plan has been developed by Ferber and the purpose of it is to instill consistent and regular sleep patterns in your child.
A brief outline
A brief outline of the plan by Ferber is that after a warm, loving pre-bedtime routine such as singing, rocking, or reading a book, you put your child to bed while she’s still awake.
In doing so, according to Ferber, you are thus putting your child to bed while he or she is still awake. And this is important to successfully teaching your baby to go to sleep on his or her own.
What if the baby cries?
After you have put your child in bed, leave the room, then if you hear your baby crying, don’t check on him or her until after a specified amount of time has passed.
Then go back to the room and soothe your baby with your voice but do not make the mistake of picking your baby up, rocking your baby or feeding him or her.
Increase the duration
Slowly, increase the length of time that passes between checks. As a result of such actions, you will soon see that your baby will learn that crying earns nothing more than a brief check from you!
Soon, your baby will learn to fall asleep on his or her own, without your help and thus, in this way, the Ferber method will really help you with all your baby sleeping problems.
