Sleeping problems in infants from 4 to 7 months of age

by admin on August 29, 2010

There are a few things that can help your 3 months old infant to sleep all night.
Babies are very curious and they learn and watch the world around them all the time so they will realize that sleeping time is the time when their parent isn’t with them.

That is a normal part of baby development known as separation anxiety.
Parents should be patient about putting their baby to sleep and not give up if the baby is strongwilled about bedtime.
This is a good time to introduce some new baby foods which can help your baby feel sleepy but make sure you do it gradually.

If the baby isn’t going to sleep or keeps waking up and crying for you, then she needs to learn to self-comfort, but not all at once. Ease her into the habit of sleeping alone.

Bedtime rituals are very important for babies and hold on to them. Your bedtime ritual can begin with a warm bath and feeding and after that you rock, snuggle, sing or read together with your baby and both of you will feel a bond that brings you together.

Try to put your baby in his crib with the rocker or glider right next to it so you can sing or read to him if he doesn’t fall asleep right away. Standing by the crib and rubbing or patting your baby’s back is a good way to calm him.
In a week or two, move the chair a short distance away from the crib, so the baby can see you.
You can talk or read or sing.

Get up and comfort your baby if he cries more than 10-15 minutes. Put him back to his crib and go back to your chair.
In another week or two, move the farther away, towards the door.
Incorporating this minor changes could be hard for your baby so be patient.
The baby will slowly get used to the idea of separation and that all your focus in not entirely on him anymore but he will be aware of your presence. So you can use this time to read or fold his laundry or do something else.
